What is the Chamber of Commerce?

You may have found yourself wondering, what exactly does the Chamber do?  The following issue paper is a brief overview of what the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is involved with.   It is by no means an all inclusive list but, it does provide a starting point.

Since its beginnings in both Blacksburg and Christiansburg, the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce has been the voice of the business and professional community.   The Chamber is the only membership organization that is totally involved in the growth and development of the community with a pro-business emphasis.

The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is a member based organization and has 600+ members representing thousands of employees in the New River Valley region.   Members participate in many diverse committees that deal with business/community concerns.   The Chamber is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting of 25 of Montgomery County’s most important business and community leaders.

The Chamber is a not-for-profit entity 501 (c) (6) that is funded primarily through member’s investments.   However, some non-investment income is realized through fund raising activities such as seminars, trade shows, advertising, etc…

The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is responsible for the promotion of Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Montgomery County and it’s members to prospective & existing businesses, visitors, and residents.   We also serve as a resource pool for our members and provide assistance to citizens and non-member businesses.
